The video I chose was "Technology Provides Parents a Window on the Classroom by Linking Home to School". This video showcased a classroom that utilizes the Black Board program for most of its daily assignments. The students are completing and turning in their work daily through the computer. The teacher also posts all homework and extra credit through the Black Board system. Virtually all academics for the classroom are handled in this program. The benefit of this program is that it allows for parents to join onto the page and monitor everything their child is doing in school from the comfort of their home. I really liked this video because it allows for parents to be involved with their child's school life while not being intrusive in the classroom. I feel that it makes it easy for parents to monitor their child's progress in learning and helps them keep up on their grades. The easiness of logging on from any computer to access homework assignments makes for fewer missed assignments. These types of programs also allow for the student's learning to continue outside of the classroom. I have learned that there are so many ways to integrate the family into helping their student succeed. It is very important to have the whole family behind the student's education and this is an easy way to achieve that. Teaching children in the ways of new technology really helps them form advanced ways of thinking and prepares them for jobs of the future.
Technology is very important in the classroom. There are infinite ways to use technology to support any type of subject matter you are teaching. By allowing students to use technology their creativity will shine. Students of today are very smart at using any type of technology that is presented to them and they will all use it a little differently. It is amazing what students are able to create. I think that I will try to use technology to present a differentiated learning environment so that all my students can benefit and show off their individual talents. I would love to create a class website that allowed parents to be involved. Utilizing these types of programs will make communication much easier between school and home. There will be no more lost permission slips or newsletters that never came back out of a backpack. It allows for parents to check in on their child when it is convenient for them. I also am interested in learning all the new ways of using technology through the projects for this class .
